King Ashoka was the famous ruler of Mauryan dynasty. He is also known as Ashoka the great. His father was Bindusara. Time period of Ashoka was 293-273 BC. For the first eight years he was ruled like a cruel king and maintained discipline. His name was found in copies of Minor Rock Edict 1. He was the first king to maintain direct contact with people through inscriptions.
Kalinga war in 261 BC converted him to Buddhism under Upagupta. He converted to Buddhism after witnessing the mass deaths of the kalinga war.He is the king who send Buddhist monks to Sri Lanka and other Asian countries and for establishing the preeches and thoughts ofLord Buddha. Ashoka spread Buddhism in all over the world. And he protected the famous sites in Buddha’s life.
