Saina Nehwal
Saina Nehwal was born on March 17, 1990, in Dhindar, Haryana’s Hisar district. She is a world-class badminton player who represents India. She was ranked second in the world by the Badminton World Federation in December 2010.
She is the daughter of Harvir Singh and Usha Nehwal. The family later relocated to Hyderabad, Telangana, where they currently reside. Her parents were both former state champions in badminton, so she inherited her talent and passion for the sport. As a result, she began playing badminton at the age of eight. She was trained by Nani Prasad and was subjected to a rigorous exercise regimen devised by her teacher when she was just an infant. Her hard work is always paying off for her.
In 2006, Saina Nehwal won the prestigious Asian Satellite Badminton tournament after becoming the badminton under-19 National Champion. In 2008, she became the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships, and in 2009, she became the first Indian to win the Indonesian Open, part of the BWF Super Series. She won a Bronze Medal in the mega event at the London Olympics 2012, making her the first Indian to earn a medal in Badminton. She has received several honors and awards to date. In January of 2014, Saina Nehwal earned the Women’s Singles Gold Tournament at the Indian Open Grand Prix, and she also won the Australian Super Series in June. She is now ranked No. 7 in the world in badminton.
Saina Nehwal is currently supported by ‘Olympic Gold Quest,’ a foundation that helps athletes who can win Olympic gold. In the Indian Badminton League, she plays for the Hyderabad Hotshots. Pullela Gopichand, a national coach, is currently mentoring her. She is also the Sahara India Pariwar brand ambassador.
