Mother’s Day is a commemoration praising the mother of the family or individual, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the significance of mothers in our society. It is celebrated on distinct days in many parts of the world. Most commonly it is celebrated either in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations, honoring family members, just like Father’s Day, Siblings Day, and Grandparents Day.

While some countries have a multi-century story of a day to celebrate mothers, the modern American version of the holiday began majorly in the United States under the leadership of Anna Jarvis in the early 20th century. He established the first Mother’s Day as the service of worship and ceremony at Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which works as the International Mother’s Day Shrine these days. It is not instantly related to many traditional celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have existed everywhere across the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the mother deity Rhea, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the other Christian ecclesiastical Mothering Sunday celebration (associated with the image of Mother Church). However, in some countries, Mother’s Day is still similar to these old traditions.

Mother’s day is generally celebrated on the second Sunday of May. It is generally celebrated for motherhood and is a day for the children to make their moms happy. This day is extended to different generations of mothers, like the Grandmothers, great grandmothers, step-mothers, and aunts. Most people usually get the opportunities to spend time with their families on this day in all the possible ways. Often, moms on this one day, are freed from all the household chores and just made to enjoy their day. Some children, who are far away from their moms, often engage with them through a video call or something.
