Reply To: What are the different parts of a human ear?

Ear is the sense organ of the human body that not only enables us to hear but also maintains the body balance. Strange right? But yes, ear also helps in maintaining the body balance.

A human ear can be divided into three parts –

Outer ear, middle ear and inner ear

1. The outer ear –

It is the outermost visible part of an ear. It is also known as the pinna.

2. The middle ear –

It includes the tympanic cavity and the three ear ossicles.

The three ossicles are – malleus, incus and stapes.

3. The inner ear –

It consists of semicircular canals, utriculus and sacculus, cochlea.

The semicircular canals aids in balancing a moving body

Utriculus and sacculus aids in maintaining body balance when stationary

And cochlea contains the organ of Corti or the hearing organ, that is, it aids in hearing.

Thus, this was the general structure of a human ear. I hope it helps.
