Adverbs are words that modify verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. The following types of adverbs are used in English.

1. Adverb of manner – These a adverbs describe the way or manner of an action.

Example – She sings beautifully.

He dances gracefully.

Adverbs of place – They mention where an action takes place.

Example – I am going there.

Please come inside.

Adverbs of time – These adverbs state the time of occurrence of an action.

Example – I will go there tomorrow.

He will come soon.

Adverbs of frequency – They tell us how often an action take place.

Example – I brush my teeth daily.


A verb is a word that tells about an action or a state. Every sentence has a verb and therefore a verb is the main part of a sentence. The following are the different types of verbs.

A transitive verbs is a word that takes an object.

Example - He hit the ball.

Intransitive verb does not take an object.

Example - He cried.

A verb that helps in other words to form its tense mood or voice is known as an auxiliary verb.

Example - He is dancing.

A modal verb is a word that Express a necessity or a possibility.

Example - We should do our work.
