We all are aware about the pollution caused by plastic. Plastic is a a synthetic material made from a wide range of organic polymers such as polyethylene, PVC, nylon, etc., that can be moulded into shape while soft, and then set into a rigid or slightly elastic form. It is non-biodegradable in nature and stays in land and water for ages causing land and water pollution respectively, if burnt they emit harmful gases which causes air pollution inspite of all these things we use plastic on a daily basis. The major use of plastic is to store food and keep it intact for a long period of time, plastic is used for this purpose due to some of its properties:
1) It is non-biodegradable so there is no chance of even a bit of it getting transferred to the food this problem occurs with paper, but with plastic this is easily solved also plastic ensures that there is no leakage.
2) Plastic is available at a very cheap rate and is also widely available, it is made from chemicals and thus trees are not harmed in this process.
3) Also, plastic helps to keep the food item fresh and easily makes it air tight which helps in preservation.
