Reply To: Difference between metals and non-metals

Metals are malleable and ductile.

Metals are good conductor of heat and electricity.

Metal are lustrous and can be get polished easily again after the use.

Metals are always solid at room temperature and a very strong except for microwave which is liquid at room temperature.

Metal forms oxides that are basic in nature.

Metals can displace hydrogen from water and from diluted acid.

Metals do not combined with hydrogen only a few metals have the capability to react with to form ionic metal hydrides.

Non - Metals

Non metals are not strong and can be easily breakable. They are not ductile or malleable.

Non metals are bad conductor of heat and electricity except for graphite which is the good conductor of electricity.

Non metals are not lustrous and they cannot be polished except for iodine.

Non metals can be solid gas or liquid at room temperature.

Non metals form acidic oxide or neutral oxides.

Non metal do not react with water in any form or to acid.

Non metals react with hydrogen to make covalent and stable bonds.
