Reply To: What is ascending and descending order?

In increasing numbers or declining orders children will learn to arrange numbers from the largest to the smallest and also from the smallest to the largest.

Order increases:

When numbers range from the smallest to the largest, those numbers are said to be increasing.

For example:

Arrange the numbers in ascending order from 5 to 11.

5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

Order drop:

When numbers are listed from the largest to the smallest, those numbers are said to be reversible.

For example:

Arrange the numbers by descending from 23 to 17.

23, 22, 21, 20, 19, 18, 17
