The 15th of August is one of the most significant days in Indian history. It commemorates the day when the Indian subcontinent gained freedom after a lengthy battle. There are just three national festivals in India that are celebrated by the entire country as a whole. The first is Independence Day (15th August), followed by Republic Day (26th January) and Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October).

Following independence, India grew to become the world’s largest democracy. We battled hard to get freedom from the British. In this Independence Day essay, we will look at the history and significance of the holiday.

The British ruled over us for over two centuries. And the citizens of the country suffered greatly as a result of these tyrants. British officials treat us like slaves until we can strike back.

We battled for freedom, but we worked relentlessly and selflessly under the leadership of Jawahar Lal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar Azad, and Bhagat Singh. Some of these leaders chose violence, while others choose nonviolence.

The main objective of these, however, was to push the British out of the nation. And on August 15, 1947, the long-awaited desire was realized.

We commemorate Independence Day to relive the moment and to honor the spirit of freedom and independence. Another purpose is to commemorate the sacrifices and lives lost during this conflict. Furthermore, we honored it to remind ourselves that the freedom we enjoy was gained the hard way.

Aside from that, the celebration awakens the nationalist inside us. Along with the celebration, the youthful generation is familiar with the difficulties of the individuals who lived during that historical period.
