Warren Hastings FRS (6 December 1732 – 22 August 1818), a British government official, was the first governor of the Presidency of Fort William (Bengal), head of the Supreme Council of Bengal, as well as the first Governor-General of Bengal in 1772-1785. He and Robert Clive were credited with laying the foundation for the British Empire in India.   He was a powerful promoter and promoter. In 1779-1784 he led the troops of the East India Company to fight the strong alliance of native lands with the French. Eventually, Britain’s well-organized coalition came to a standstill, while France lost its influence in India. In 1787, he was accused of corruption and sentenced, but after a lengthy trial in 1795. He was appointed Executive Councilor in 1814.
