Without making healthy lifestyle decisions and dealing with the side effects of medications or untreated medical conditions, there is little you can do to naturally increase your testosterone levels.
Testosterone levels vary widely among men. Generally, however, older men tend to have lower testosterone levels than younger men. Testosterone levels gradually decrease with age – about 1 percent a year after age 30 on average.
Blood tests are the only way to detect low testosterone levels or to reduce testosterone levels. Some men have lower testosterone levels than normal without symptoms or signs. For most men, it does not require treatment. But for others, very low levels of testosterone lead to a condition in which the bones become weak and broken (osteoporosis). For some, low testosterone can cause changes in sexual function, sleep patterns, mood and body.
However, some of these signs and symptoms can be caused by things other than low testosterone, including adverse drug reactions, thyroid problems, depression and alcohol abuse. There are also conditions, such as sleep apnea, which can affect testosterone levels. Once these conditions are detected and treated, testosterone itself will return to normal levels.
