Rath Yatra is the famous Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Jagannath, who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. This festival is celebrated at the Gundicha temple, situated in Puri, India, either in the month of June or July. According to the Hindu calendar, this occasion falls on the second day of the ‘Ashaadh’ month. This festival has been celebrated since the olden days of the Puranas. Millions of pilgrims get together to celebrate this auspicious occasion. On this auspicious occasion, the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadr, and Devi Subhadra are worshipped inside the premises of the temple. It is assumed that on the day of Rath Yatra, Lord Jagannath visits the temple with his siblings on their chariots.

Rath Yatra signifies integration and equality. It is also known as the Chariot festival and gravels the way for the devotees who are otherwise restricted to enter the temples to see the deities. On this occasion, all its devotees pull the chariots as a procession for three kilometers, permitting the bhaktas to offer puja and offerings on their way. It is believed that whoever pulls the chariots gets a lifetime of happiness and prosperity. Also, his life gets filled with serenity, joy, and peace. The Chariot parade starts at the Badadanda and progresses towards the Gundicha Temple for nine days. And then they return to the Jagannath temple. Every year, the chariots are newly carved and substituted for the deities. The idols of the three deities are superseded once every 12 years. The ceremony of Rath Yatra goes on for 12 days. Many rituals are performed showing the dedication towards Rath Yatra.
