    Phrase and clause are the most important part of a sentence. And sentences can not be complete without phrases and clauses.

    Clause:-

    Clause contains a verb,it is a kind of sentence. Clauses have subject, predicate, object and other modifiers. Clause is an actual part of a sentence.

    Example:-

    Finally we can rest after a long day.

    Tom likes to eat meat at the nearest shop.

    She laughed at funny people.

    I eat buttery popcorn

    ( The bold part of the sentence is clause)

    Phrase:- phrase is part of a sentence which doesn’t have any verb. Phrase is not a sentence it is just a group of words.

    Example:-

    There isn’t any ideal age to get married.

    She laughed at funny people.

    Finally we can rest after a long day.

    Her earnest desire is to go to Italy.

    (The bold parts is phrase)

    So now that you have a basic idea of phrase and clause, so let’s learn the differences between them-

    Differences of Phrase and Clause:-

    1. Clause is a kind of a sentence, but a phrase isn’t a sentence, it is a group of words.
    2. Clause has a verb in it, but phrase doesn’t have any verb.
    3. Clauses have subject and predicate, but phrase doesn’t have subject or predicate because it is not a sentence.
    4. Clause can convey the complete thought of a sentence, but phrase can not convey the complete thought of a sentence.
    5. Clauses give the complete information about subject and predicate, but Phrase can not convey the information of subject and predicate.
    6. There are basically the two types of clause independent clause and dependent clause. But phrases are different eight types of : noun, verb, gerund, infinitive, appositive, participial, prepositional, and absolute.
    7. The independent clause can stand alone, on the other hand any type of phrase can not stand alone.
