The largest organ in the body is the skin. The skin weighs about 6-9 kg. Skin accounts for about 15% of your body. Skin is soft, to allow movement, but tough enough to resist breaking or tearing. The skin is made up of three main layers: the epidermis, dermis and subcutis. Skin on our lips and eyelids is very thin while skin on our soles of feet are thicker and harder. Skin is a sense organ that gives us information about pain, pleasure, temperature and presure.
