India has various laws and regulations aimed at solving environmental pollution.
The main environmental laws in India are:
• Environmental (Protection) Act 1986
The central government holds the power to take measures to protect and improve the air quality of the environment. They are allowed to set parameters to avoid adverse environmental impacts.• Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974
This law aims to control pollution and restore the wholesomeness of water. The central and state boards will prescribe what measures are meant to be taken to control the pollution and restore the wholesomeness of water.• Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981
This law aims to prevent and control air pollution. The central and state boards are permitted to prescribe the standard of emissions, inspect premises and what measures to take to control air pollution. In addition to the above laws, the following laws are vital and exist as well
• The Hazardous Waste (Management, Handling, and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2008
This law targets the generation, disposal, collection, storage, transportation and treatment of hazardous wastes. It aims to not ruin the harmony of the environment and gives out guidelines for the import and export of hazardous waste.
• The Forest (Conservation) Act 1980
Its primary target is to conserve forests and wildlife. Pre-approval from the central government is required before any measure is taken.• The National Green Tribunal Act 2010
This law also aims at conserving forests and increasing the greenery all over India. It handles all the cases related to environmental protection, environmental issues, environmental impact assessment etc.- This reply was modified 1 year ago by Ayesha Begum.
