The ozone layer is like a giant invisible shield in the Earth’s atmosphere. It’s made up of ozone, a molecule with three oxygen atoms. This layer sits high up, in the stratosphere, about 15 to 30 kilometers above us.
The ozone layer absorbs most of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV-B) radiation. This radiation can damage living things, including causing skin cancer in humans. By soaking up this UV-B, the ozone layer protects life on Earth’s surface. Imagine it as a giant sunscreen for our planet! That’s why Ozone layer is important.
