The closest star to Earth, other than the Sun, is Proxima Centauri, which is approximately 4.24 light-years away.
Currently, the fastest spacecraft ever launched by humans is the Parker Solar Probe, which is expected to travel at speeds of up to 700,000 kilometers per hour (430,000 miles per hour) as it approaches the Sun. At this speed, it would take the Parker Solar Probe tens of thousands of years to reach Proxima Centauri.
With our current technology, it would take a spacecraft thousands of years to travel to the closest star, Proxima Centauri. This is due to the immense distances involved and the limitations of our current propulsion systems.
Developing faster propulsion systems, such as light sails or advanced propulsion technologies like nuclear-powered engines, could potentially reduce the travel time to reach Proxima Centauri or other nearby stars. However, at present, the vast distances to even the closest stars make interstellar travel a significant technological and engineering challenge.
