Just like how humans are built to adapt in the air on land, fishes and other aquatic animals are accordingly designed to adapt to living in the water. There are a lot of features in fishes that make it live in water easily rather than being on earth in air. Some of them are:

    1. Fishes have gills which help them breathe underwater. Gills are the respiratory organs made for aquatic species to breathe the dissolved oxygen (O2) in water and excrete the byproduct of respiration- carbon dioxide (CO2). These are the replacement of lungs in a human body.

    2. To easily swim in water and strong currents, fishes have streamlined bodies (this is a shape that specifically reduces the friction offered by air or water, in this case water). This shape of their body helps them to reduce the friction offered by the water. To further support their swimming and easy movement in water, they have different types of fins (like anal fin, caudal fin, pectoral fin, pelvic fin, etc.) and tails which provide extra support and less resistance.

    3. Fishes also have hard scales and mucous layers on their skin to further reduce the friction offered by the water surrounding them. These also make them waterproof and prevent their skins from rotting.
