  Birds create different sounds primarily through a unique organ called the syrinx. The syrinx is located at the base of a bird’s trachea and contains membranes and muscles that vibrate to produce sound when air passes through .Songbirds in particular have a highly developed syrinx with multiple pairs of muscles that allow them to precisely control the vibration of the membranes and produce a wide range of complex vocalizations, including trills, whistles, and even “duets” where they create two sounds simultaneously .In contrast, birds like ostriches and vultures that lack a syrinx or have a more limited one can only produce simpler sounds like grunts and hisses .The shape of a bird’s beak, tongue, and other vocal structures also helps shape the final sound that is produced . Overall, the avian vocal system is remarkably efficient and adaptable compared to the human larynx, allowing birds to create an incredible diversity of sounds for communication .
