Essay on “birds of a feather flock together”
The proverb is literally about birds. Large flocks of birds can often be seen flying together. They eat, move, and gather as a group. We can’t spot a sparrow among the pigeons. Similarly, among the aquatic birds, there are no flying birds. With a group of ducks, you can’t see an eagle. This indicates that people of the same species will congregate.
A different bird cannot be forced into the same-bird group. It isn’t going to fit. This is comparable to human behavior. People join and accompany the friendship of others who share their personality traits. You can’t establish a friendship with someone who is utterly unlike you in character.
So, if you want to build long-lasting friendships, you should pick people with comparable personalities and outlooks. Only then will you be able to stay with them in the long run.
The proverb has a deeper connotation as well. The company a man maintains might reveal a lot about his personality. A bad individual will be noticed among other bad people. A pious individual will not be found among the drunks. Furthermore, when you spend time with sophisticated guys, you will undoubtedly become refined as well. Similarly, a man’s character is enriched by the friendships he creates. As a result, the proverb is a metaphorical statement that compares human behaviour to that of birds. People of the same species, like birds, flock together.
