    Rani Laxmi Bai

     

    Rani laxmi bai was a great Indian freedom fighter who fought against the British raj.She is the symbol of women empowerment. Although she fought for own state but she never bends down before the British and fought for rights of her country till her last breath. Rani laxmi bai born on 19 November, 1828 at Varanasi. On her childhood she called as Manikarnika in short Mannu.She grew up under the care of Nana Sahib the son of Peshwa Bajirao. She had a loveable childhood, she learned arm training, horse riding, sword fighting. She had a different upbringing than other women of her time.Her beauty and talent stole the attention of every soon she selected as a bride of Raja Gangadhar rao at a very young. At a age of 14 she became the wife of Jhansi’s king Gangadhar rao. Raja Gangadhar Rao and she soon became a parent a of a son Damodar Rao, but unfortunately died after 4 months.They adopted a son and gave the same name as their late son. As soon as Gangadhar became seriously ill, and passed away at 1853. She became widow at the age of 25.India’s then governor general lord Dalhousie following the doctrine of lapse, didn’t accept Damodar as the succeder of Jhansi’s throne. But she never gave up on Jhansi. Rani Laxmi Bai built her own army, her army include people of every caste and class including women.The British government became so fearful about her consider her as a biggest enemy. She started the rebellion against British on May 10,1857 at Meerut. She successfully assemble an army with the help of her fellow neighbor states. She was not ready to give up the throne of Jhansi.She fought face to face with British Army at 1858 her army leaded by Tatiya Tope. But she can’t dominate British and fought till her last breath and died at the age of 30 on the battle.
