Durga Pooja is the biggest festival of West Bengal, every year Durga Pooja is celebrated here with great pomp and show, people buy new clothes on this occasion and celebrate it with full of enthusiasm.Durga Pooja is observed every year in West Bengal as well as in other parts of India in the month of September-october to celebrate the victory of good over evil,and winning of goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, goddess Durga is also known as goddess of empowerment and strength,this is celebration of strength and empowerment. People worship Goddess Durga with full of faith and believe, and celebrate Durga Pooja for ten days in big ‘Pandals’ in which sculpture of goddess Durga is placed showing goddess with the weapons in all of her ten hands and killing demon Mahishasura with her weapon ‘trishool’.
These ‘Pandals’ are really beautiful and wondrous when they are in front,the jiggling lights of different colours combined with holy bhajans of maa Durga really spreads good and positive vibes,every year sculpture of goddess Durga is carved out from the soil collected from the banks of river Ganges and at the tenth day of this festival,women feed sweets to maa durga as their thanking gesture and wishing good fortune and safe journey to goddess of empowerment and strength , they also put ‘sindoor’ on the forehead of goddess Durga and then they rub that sindoor among other women’s head wishing they’ll be married all their life like Goddess Durga.
People head with Sculpture of Goddess Durga towards the bank of river Ganges with full of celebration on their way, they dance,sing,and celebrate with joy on this day and wish her to come back next year,and with this,they splash the sculpture of goddess Durga into the holy river Ganges and ensure return of goddess Durga back to lord Shiva. Durga Pooja is one of festivals which celebrates faith of People regarding goodness, strength and empowerment.
