    SUKHDEV

Sukhdev was a revolutionary in India. He was born in Naughara Maholla, Ludhiana, on May 15, 1907. Sukhdev Thapar is his full name. He is one of India’s famous freedom warriors who gave their life for the country’s independence. Ramlal Thapar was his father’s name, and Ralli Devi was his mother’s. From a young age, he had a rebel attitude. He would refuse to salute British officers that came to his school throughout his school days.

Sukhdev was raised by his uncle after losing his father at a young age. His uncle’s incarceration prompted him to engage in revolutionary activities in the fight for independence from colonial authority.

Sukhdev joined Bhagat Singh’s Naujawan Bharat Seva, which had been founded in 1926. They became close friends and coworkers.

He took part in a variety of initiatives in the Punjab region to foster national awareness among the country’s youth.

Sukhdev was a Hindustan Socialist Republican Association member (HSRA). In Punjab and other parts of north India, he formed a revolutionary group. He was the head of the HSRA’s Punjab unit and had a key role in making decisions.

Sukhdev researched different revolutions throughout the world in college, notably the Russian Revolution.

Lala Lajpat Rai, a seasoned Congress politician, was brutally assaulted with a lathi by a British police officer called James A Scott at an anti-Simon Commission demonstration in 1928. Lajpat Rai died a few days later as a result of his injuries.

Sukhdev and the other young revolutionaries determined to revenge Lajpat Rai’s killing. Sukhdev, according to Bhagat Singh’s biographer, handpicked Bhagat Singh to murder Scott.

In a case of mistaken identity, Bhagat Singh and his associates Sukhdev and Rajguru murdered an Assistant Superintendent of Police, John P. Saunders, on December 17, 1928. Even yet, they insisted that Lajpat Rai’s killing was avenged. The group managed to flee after completing the crime.

They took the train from Lahore to Lucknow. Rajguru continued his journey from Lucknow to Benares. A few days later, he returned to Lahore.

All of the assassination’s perpetrators were apprehended by the British authorities. In March 1929, Raj guru was apprehended near a bomb factory in Lahore. In the subsequent trial, all three were sentenced to death by hanging.

Rajguru and his friends went on a hunger strike in jail to demand better conditions for political prisoners.

While in prison, he also composed and sent a letter to Mahatma Gandhi.

Three heroic revolutionaries, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivram Rajguru, were hung in Lahore’s Central Jail on March 23, 1931, and their body was secretly burnt on the banks of the Sutlej by the British. Even though the penalty violated all hanging laws. When Sukhdev was slain for his nation, he was just 23 years old.
