Franklin D. Roosevelt – The U.S. President who led America through most of the war until his death in 1945. He helped orchestrate the Allied war effort and brought the U.S. into the war after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Joseph Stalin – The Soviet leader who allied with the Western powers against Nazi Germany. Stalin’s Red Army bore the brunt of the fighting on the Eastern Front and eventually captured Berlin.

Benito Mussolini – The Italian dictator who allied with Hitler but whose forces suffered defeats in North Africa, Greece and elsewhere. Mussolini was overthrown and executed by partisans in 1945.

Charles de Gaulle – The leader of the Free French forces who fought against the Axis powers and the Vichy French regime. De Gaulle later became President of France. These leaders, both Allied and Axis, played pivotal roles in shaping the course and outcome of World War II through their decisions, strategies and force of personality.
