The largest animal on this planet is rather an aquatic one, which is none other than the Antarctic Blue Whale that most of us have grown up watching on the Discovery Channel. The Antarctic Blue Whale weighs about 400,000 pounds which is nearly equivalent to the weight of 33 elephants! (Can you imagine that?😲)
These warm-blooded mammals inhabit in high latitude ocean waters of Antarctica throughout the summers and low latitude in winters. Meaning, during the hot days of the year, they swim around the boundary between the sea and sea ice near the Antarctic region. They swim all their way up to warmer waters near the equator to spend their winter in breeding. (kindly refer to Figure 2 to have a better understanding of the migration patterns of the blue whales in summer and winter seasons).
[FUN FACT: Blue whales can communicate with one another using their high frequency sound from100 miles away.]
Blue whales can be found in every ocean across the globe except for the Artic ocean. The estimated life-span of a blue whale is 80-90 years and they can grow up to 33 meters in length which is twice the size of a t-rex dinosaur.
I hope I have answered your question 🙂
