  Making an origami paper crane is a classic and popular origami project. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to make one:

  1. Start with a square piece of origami paper. If you don’t have origami paper, you can cut a regular piece of paper into a square shape.

  2. Place the paper color-side down on a flat surface, so the white side is facing up.

  3. Fold the paper in half diagonally to form a triangle. Make sure to line up the edges carefully and crease the fold.

  4. Unfold the triangle and repeat the previous step by folding it in half diagonally in the other direction. Again, crease the fold and then unfold the triangle.

  5. Position the paper with the colored side facing up. Fold it in half horizontally, bringing the top edge down to the bottom edge. Crease the fold and then unfold.

  6. Rotate the paper so that the colored side is facing down. Fold the paper vertically, bringing the left edge to meet the right edge. Crease the fold and then unfold.

  7. Turn the paper over so the colored side is facing up again.

  8. Fold the paper in half horizontally, bringing the top edge down to the bottom edge. Crease the fold, but this time, do not unfold.

  9. Next, fold the left and right edges of the paper inward, towards the center, aligning them with the vertical crease in the middle.

  10. Take the top layer of the right flap and fold it diagonally, aligning the outer edge with the center crease. Crease the fold, then unfold it.

  11. Repeat the previous step with the left flap, folding it diagonally, and aligning the outer edge with the center crease. Crease the fold, then unfold it.

  12. Now, you should see a small square at the top of the paper. Fold that square down along the creases you made in steps 10 and 11.

  13. Rotate the paper so that the open end is facing towards you.

  14. Take the top layer of the bottom flap and fold it upwards, aligning the edge with the bottom edge of the model. Crease the fold, then unfold it.

  15. Repeat the previous step with the top flap, folding it downwards, and aligning the edge with the top edge of the model. Crease the fold, then unfold it.

  16. Carefully hold the model by the bottom and gently pull the left and right sides apart. As you do this, the model should collapse and form a diamond shape.

  17. Flatten the model by pushing the sides inward, while bringing the top and bottom flaps together. Continue to flatten the model until it forms a square shape.

  18. Finally, fold the top flap of the square downwards to form the head of the crane. You can shape the wings and tail by gently manipulating the paper.

  Congratulations! You have successfully made an origami paper crane.
