During photosynthesis, plants take in carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) from the air and soil. Within the plant cell, the water is oxidized, meaning it loses electrons, while the carbon dioxide is reduced, meaning it gains electrons.<div>Chlorophyll absorbs the light energy from the sun to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.</div><div>
</div><div>Chlorophyll role is to absorb light from sunlight in plants. The energy absorbed from light is utilized to convert carbon dioxide and water molecules into glucose, through photosynthesis.</div><div>Chlorophyll being a primary pigment (photoreceptor) reflects green light, absorbing red and blue light in the chloroplast.</div><div>Thus, overall photosynthesis process depends on the chlorophyll.</div>
