The world is compromises of different kinds of things. In day-to-day life, we come across different things like furniture electronics, foods, drinks, birds, etc. These things are classified as living things and non-living things. Plants, Animals, Human beings are termed as living things. They are also known as living beings. Whereas building, furniture, bed, toys, etc. are non – living things.
Difference between Living Things and Non-Living Things:
There is quite a difference between Living Things and Non-Living things. Let’s discuss it below:
Food:
All Living things need food to survive in this world. Whether it is plants, animals, or Human beings. Food is the basic necessity to sustain life on this planet. Plants make their own food through photosynthesis while Animals and human beings depend on plants or other animals.
Non-Living Things do not need any food. They can survive without it.
<b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>Growth:
Growth is an inevitable truth in the life cycle that every living thing has to follow. In that life cycle, living things are born, they grow old and then die. A Seed grows into a seedling, then further grows into a plant then into a tree. Similarly, ANimals and Human Beings grow from children into adults. As a result, living things change their size, shape, and appearance as they grow.
Non-Living Things do not grow in size, shape, and appearance. They don’t die instead they get destroyed. They remain the same throughout their usage.
Movement:
Movement is also the basic requirement of Living Things. All Living Things move from one place to another in search of food. Plants grow in that direction where they receive more sunlight. Animals hunt their prey.
Whereas Non-Living Things cannot move on their own. They need an external force to move from one place to another.
Breathe:
Another ability posses by all Living Things is that they can breathe and stay alive. Plants breathe through stomata, animals and human beings can breathe through the respective breathing organs.
Non-Living Things don’t breathe because they are not alive.
Reproduction:
The primary function of many plants and animals is to reproduce. Even human beings are also slaves to producing the offsprings. Though the method and process are different in every living being but the goal is same i.e. to multiply.
Non-Living Things do not reproduce.
That summarizes the major aspect in which Living and Non-Living Things can be differentiated. There might be other minor points like Living Things can respond to each other while Non-Living Things can’t.
But the major reason is discussed above.
