Why do star twinkle in the sky? Does it has anything to do with scattering of light?

The twinkling of stars happens because of atmospheric refraction of the light coming from the stars as a individual. When the starlight enters the earths atmospheres, it has to pass through so many layers/densities of air at various levels and different altitude and so it refract a lot before reaching to our eyes. The continuously changing atmosphere refract the star light in different amount at different range. So in this way, the starlight reaching our eyes increases and decreases continuously and so the stars appear to twinkle. Scattering of light is traveling of light from one medium to another and this happens in the whole process when starlight comes to our eyes from the star. As it has to go through different densities, atmospheric conditions, and altitudes.
