Durga Puja, the most important festival of the Hindu religion, is traditionally held for 10 days in the month of Ashwin (September-October), the seventh month of the Indian calendar, and is celebrated in Bengal, Assam and other eastern Indian states of america. Durga Puja celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon-king of mahishasura. It begins on the day of Navratri is a nine days festival dedicated to the divine feminine.
On the first day of the Durga Puja, is Mahalaya, which is a sign of the coming of the goddess. The Festivals and worship will begin at Sasthi, on the sixth day. For the next three days, and the worship of the goddess in her various forms as Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati.
