Lightning and thunder can be dangerous. Lightning strikes can cause structural damage, fires, and personal injury. During a storm, seek cover indoors, far from electrical devices, as a precaution. It can impact an individual psychologically such as creating anxieties scientifically termed as “Astrophabia” leading to noise pollution. Lightning can also have beneficial consequences. It helps the Earth’s nitrogen cycle operate by producing nitrogen oxides, that serve as necessary nutrients for plant growth. However, these advantages are often outweighed by the risks. Lightning strikes are a common cause of wildfires. When lightning hits dry vegetation or forests, it can ignite fires that spread rapidly, causing extensive damage to ecosystems and property.
