    We should know different greetings in English that might come handy in different situations. It can help us to know when people greet us so we can greet back them.

    Let’s proceed to the different ways that we can greet someone in English.

    1. Hello.

    This is the most basic greeting in English. We can use it at any time with any people and in a different situations.

    We can also use it with other greetings too like sentences, and questions.

    a) Hello. How are you? <div>

    b) Hello. My name is Michel.

    c) Hello. How can I help you?


    2. Hi.

    This is a short form of “hello”. Some people prefer to say “hi” instead of “hello”, but we can also use both “hi” and “hello” in any situation.

    a) Hi. How are you?

    b) Hi. How can I help you?

    3. Hey.

    “Hey” is more casual than “hi” or “hello”. It is best to use it with family and friends, or close colleague.

    We can get somebody’s attention with these greetings too.

    a) Hey Rahul! Over here! <div>

    b) Hey Rick! Come here.


    4. Good morning. / Good afternoon. / Good evening.

    We use these expressions as a greeting depending on the time of the day. It is used in very simple and polite situations. Of course, we can greet family and friends.

    5. It’s nice to meet you.

    This is another very polite expression, used when we meet someone for the first time.

    a) Nice to meet you.</div><div><div>

    6. It’s a pleasure to meet you.

    This is the same as the above expression “It’s nice to meet you”.

    It can be shortened as:

    a) A pleasure to meet you.<div>

    7. It’s good to see you again.

    We use the above greeting for the people we have already met before. However, we do not use this for our family and friends. We use it for those people we do not see every day or meet often but have already met before.

    a) Good to see you again.</div><div>

    8. What’s up?

    This is a kind of very casual greeting that is mostly used among friends. It is used to ask if a person has any news or anything special to share.

    A) What’s up?
    B) Nothing much. What about you?

    9. How’s it going?

    This is also a very common expression used to greet people asking how’s their life is going.
    We can consider “it” as “your life”.

    We can respond to this question as discuss below or whatever you want.

    A) How’s it going?
    B) Great. How about you?

    10. How are you?

    This is also among the most basic greetings in English. It is very polite to ask somebody how they are doing when you meet them.
    We can greet them back like this.

    A) How are you?

    B) I’m good. You?
