The electrostatic force can be termed as attractive as well as a repulsive force that acts between objects or particles and is caused due to their electric charges. Normally, the electric force between stationary charged bodies is called the electrostatic force. It is also known as Columb’s force.
A non-contact force is defined as a force that is applied to an object by another object or body without being in direct contact with it. Non-contact forces occur only when there is no physical contact between them or when a force is applied without any interaction.
The electrostatic force is a non-contact force as it attracts objects which do not require any physical contact with each other. It can act from a distance. For eg, If you rub a comb on your clothes and then hold it near tiny pieces of paper you will see the bits of paper standing on their end attracted to the comb. We are made of tiny positive, negative, and neutral particles. The opposite charges attract each other whereas like charges repel each other. This is the result of electrostatic forces.
