The conceptual model of the diagnostic process committee and the review of the clinical cause. Diagnosis has significant implications for patient care, research and policy. Diagnosis is defined as a process and a process of isolation, or “an existing stage agreed upon by the medical profession to determine a specific condition” (Jutel, 2009) .1 patient health (Holmboe and Durn, 2014). In addition, public policy decisions are often influenced by diagnostic data, such as setting payment policies, resource allocation decisions, and research priorities (Jutel, 2009; Rosenberg, 2002; WHO, 2012).
The chapter describes important considerations in the diagnostic process, such as the roles of diagnostic uncertainty and timing. It also highlights the growing complexity of health care, due to the ever-increasing options for diagnostic 2 and treatment, the ever-increasing levels of biological evidence and clinical practice information, and the general interaction of patients with old age (IOM, 2008, 2013b). The growing complexity of health care and the large amount of development, coupled with clinical time constraints and cognitive limitations, exceeded people’s ability to apply this new knowledge. To help manage this complexity, the chapter concludes with a discussion of the role of clinical practice guidelines in informing decision-making in the diagnostic process.
