When in sun, the iris of the eye is narrow and thus the pupil is constricted so that it allows less light to enter. As soon as we enter a dim light room directly after the sun, the iris still being narrow, allows little light to pass through it. However, within a few minutes the iris dilates the pupil allowing sufficient amount of light to pass through it. Thus we take some time to regain the original view.
