  Why were electrons chosen to be negatively charged?

  Why were electrons chosen to be negatively charged? Wouldn’t it make more sense to call electrons positively charged because when they move they make electricity?

  earth is the ocean of electron .The concept of electron being a negatively charged paticle was discovered by rutherford through his experiment where he bombarded alpha particle with high speed on a metal plate of heavy weight (aluminum and gold) the 90% of the aplha particles are passed eaily but remain retraced its path rutherford concluded that center of each atom contain a heavy postively charge particle. the plum pudding model does not differentiate between + and – charge .the model of revolution of electron around nucleus is similar to solar system but the thing is electron never have landed over proton nuclear forces are the strongest

  force also electromagnetic forces keep the equillibrium . when we rub a comb on our hair and try to grab some piece of paper then we catchsome because of the phenomenon of conduction the electrons and proton separated to form a electric feild
