The quit India Movement was one of the main stepping stone in the history of freedom struggle of India. This moment it was launched by Mahatma Gandhi and it aimed at complete withdrawal of the British from the Indian territory. The main factors that triggered the launch of the Quit India Movement were the failures of cripps mission in India and the post war effects of the World War II. Both these factors created a large amount of chaos among Indian population.

This historic moment took ok place on 14 July 1942 at the congress working committee meet in Wardha. The passed the Quit India Resolution demanding the complete transfer of powers from the British to the the Indian. Gandhi ji motivated the people by travelling across the country. On 8th August 1942 in the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee Gandhiji gave his famous do Or die slogan followed by a powerful speech. The common people took part in this movement in large numbers. People chanted National slogans and songs on roads the carried hartal and demonstrations and processions. People voluntarily wanted to involve themselves in the freedom struggle and this was the non violent movement.

Students workers and peasants and many other ordinary people took part in this moment in huge numbers that made the British government subside in pressure. Many local leaders emerged and participated actively. Some of them were Ram Manohar Lohiya Jayaprakash Narayan etc. Women also took part in large numbers and also leaded the processions and the movement. Some of them were matangini Hazra from Bengal Rama Devi in Odisha kanaklata Barua in Assam.

The British tried to stop this movement with force and started filling people in jails but the future of nationalism was high and at its peak and therefore the British had to struggle a lot to to suppress the movement. It took them a whole year to stop the agitation.
