Explain Habitat

A habitat is a place or surroundings where plants and animals live. It provides food, shelter, water, sunlight, air, and protection to the plants and animals living in it. It provides everything that organisms need to survive. A variety of plants and animals are found in different habitats. For example Deserts, grasslands, forests, lakes, hills, mountains, sea, ocean, fields, etc. A plant and an animal adapted to live in their natural habitat.

Habitat is classified into two main groups:

1. Terrestrial Habitat: A habitat that is based on land is called a terrestrial habitat. Dessert, Mountains, grasslands, hills are some of its examples.

2. Aquatic Habitat: A habitat that is based on water is called an aquatic habitat. Example: River, Lake, Ocean, and Swarms.

Though a large number of plants and animals share the same habitat, their foods are different. As a result, they face less competition for food and this ultimately helps in the survival of all organisms.
