What is Multiplication
Definition of Multiplication
When you take any number and add it together a desired number of times is called multiplication.
For example: 10 multiplied by 5 = 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 50
To avoid writing “MULTIPLY” everytime a sign was made i.e “X”
So now it can also be written as –
10 x 5 = 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 = 50
Here, in this example, a number is 10 and the desired no of time is 5. This is why multiplication is also referred to as “times”.
So, this example can also be written as –
5 times 10 is = 50
More example:
2 x 3 = 2 + 2 + 2 = 6
5 x 6 = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 30
3 x 1 = 3
