Significance of Vande Mataram

Vande Mataram is the national song of India, recognised by the government of India. The mantra or slogan Vande Mataram means” I praised the motherland, mother”. This verse was written by one of the most famous novelists, Bamkim Chandra Chattopadhyay. This song was found in one of his famous novels, “Anandamat,,h” which was published in 1882. The song was written in Sanskrit and Bengali. The song was first sung by legendary Rabindranath Tagore at the Indian National Congress policy meet in the year 1896. This song played a vital role in the freedom struggle of India. It became the slogan of the freedom fighters back then. When the Bengal, the hotbed of nationalism, was attempted to be partitioned in the year 1905 by Lord Curzon, the singing and raising of similar slogans were completely forbidden in Calcutta. This song went on to motivate combative nationalists in Bengal, Maharashtra, and Punjab. This song is continually sung in numerous programmes of the Indian National Congress. Rishi Aurobindo Ghosh translated this song into English. This song has incredibly glorious historical significance in the freedom of our country. But still, the song is in the middle of many controversies. The sections on Muslims and Sikhs obstruct it on the ground that it talks about worshipping one’s mother, which is forbidden by the respective religions. The value of this song never terminates.
