Why were electrons chosen to be negatively charged? Wouldn’t it make more sense to call electrons positively charged because when they move, they make electricity?

Earth is an ocean of electrons. The plum pudding model does not differentiate between + and – charge. force, also electromagnetic forces keep the equilibrium. When we rub a comb on our hair and try to grab some piece of paper, then we catch some because of the phenomenon of conduction, the electrons and protons are separated to form an electric field.
