Division is a mathematical operation where we split a number into equal parts. The key terms and rules are:
- Dividend: The number being divided.
- Divisor: The number dividing the dividend.
- Quotient: The result of the division, showing how many times the divisor fits into the dividend.
- Remainder: The leftover amount when the division is not exact.
Simplified Rules:
- Division by zero is undefined.
- Any number divided by one is equal to the original number.
- Zero divided by any non-zero number is zero.
- Division of zero by any non-zero number is zero.
- If the dividend is smaller than the divisor, the quotient is zero, and the dividend is the remainder.
- When the dividend is not divisible by the divisor, there is a remainder.
- The signs of the dividend and divisor determine the sign of the quotient, and the remainder has the same sign as the dividend.
