Mitochondria are also known as the powerhouse of the cell as they store in it in the form of ATP ( adenosine triphosphate ). It is the part where energy is released from food. The breakdown of pyruvate using oxygen takes place in the mitochondria. It is found in eukaryotic organisms. It is found in animal cells. The energy is from it when it is required and when it comes in contact with oxygen.
