What is a sound wave?

Define Sound Wave

A sound wave is a type of mechanical wave that travels through a medium, such as air, water, or solid materials, by causing particles in the medium to vibrate. These vibrations create compressions and rarefactions that propagate away from the sound source. The wave’s frequency determines the pitch, while its amplitude affects the volume. Sound waves are longitudinal waves, meaning the particle vibrations are parallel to the direction of wave propagation.
