A preposition tells us about the position of a noun in a sentence. It tells us the connection between two nouns. Prepositions are also called position words as they tell us about the position of someone or something.

Prepositions use phrases or words to connect or form a sentence. Prepositions are of three types:

Simple -at, by, for, from, in, of, off, on, out, till, through, to, up, with.

Compound-

Above, across, besides, around, between, inside, outside, without, into, before.

Phrase-

According to, By way of, In favour of, About, despite, Instead of.

Simple Prepositions have 1 syllable

Compound Prepositions have 2 syllables.
