What happens to the woods when they are wet?

Effect of Water on Wood

Wood is a porous substance. Exposure to water will infiltrate the wood’s membranes over time, causing it to rot, soften, and fall apart. Water also damages the structure of wood, resulting in mold development and costly restoration operations.

While a dropped drink won’t destroy your wood floors, excessive moisture (from a busted pipe, floods, or cleaning your floors with too much water) will.
