The ecosystem is interconnected network of biotic and abiotic units. Biotic units are comprises of all living organisms like animals, humans and microorganisms while, Abiotic unit contains non living things that are essential for the survival of life. For e.g. soil, water etc. Among all biotic components Flora and Fauna are key elements.
Flora: Flora is a collective name for plant kingdom. It represents a group of plant life found in a particular region.
Flora is classified by many factors but important factor is the are in which they grow. Some grow in dessert, some are found in water and in hilly areas. And they adapt accordingly. Like Cactus grow in dessert with modified leaves to preserve water and to protect itself.
Fauna: Fauna refers to a animal life native to a region.
Animal kingdom comprises of various of animal life’s making it much more complex than floral division.
1. Birds – Avifauna.
2. Fishes – Pisci Fauna.
3. Microorganisms including bacteria and viruses- Microfauna.
4. All unknown and undiscovered animals – Cryptofauna.
Earth is comprises of these beautiful creatures which exploit each other in order to survive. So, lets see why its important to maintain a balance between them?
Flora and fauna are very important for human lives as well as for other living animals. The flora liberates oxygen that is consumed by the fauna for various respiratory activities. Where as, in turn, Fauna liberates carbon dioxide which is consumed by the flora for process of photosynthesis.
As you can see Flora and Fauna both are dependent on each other for their survival. If the ecosystem becomes imbalanced then it can have adverse effect on each other like extinction of species. Therefore we need to maintain a good balance between them.
Flora and fauna has immense advantage on mankind through its medicinal value and food offerings. Animals predate on different plants and animals to balance their population on earth and helping the ecosystem to maintain the equilibrium.
Animal droppings acts as a source of fertilizer to the plants as well as the dead animals decay and act as a extra source of minerals for other animals.
