Acronyms are the shortened type of written word or phrase, which are used as a substitute of the original. It can be a pronounceable word, which includes the first letter or few letters from the main word in a phrase or title. <div>Example:- </div><div>NAFI- Navy, Army, and Air force institute.</div><div>NASA- National Aeronautics and Space Administration.</div><div>WBBSC- West Bengal board of the secondary council.</div><div>
There are some main types of pronunciation of the words of the acronym with examples:-
</div><div>• Pronounce as a word containing only initial letters, examples- GIF: Graphic interchange format, NATO: North Atlantic Treaty organization, INA: Indian National Army, etc.</div><div>• Pronounce as a word containing both initial and non-initial Letters, examples- Radar: Radio detection and ranging, Gestapo: Geheime Staatspolizei, etc.</div><div>• Pronounce as a word with a combination of spelling out. Like, CD-ROM: compact disc read-only memory, IUPAC: International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, JPEG: Joint Photographic Experts Group.</div><div>• Pronounce as a string of letters, examples- BBC: British Broadcasting Corporation</div><div>OEM: original equipment manufacturer</div><div>USA: United States of America.</div><div>• Pronounce shortcut as a string of letters.
