    The first Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) in the United States was David E. Lilienthal. He served as the Chairman from 1947 to 1950. The AEC was established in 1946 as a civilian agency responsible for the development and control of nuclear energy and weapons. Lilienthal played a significant role in the early years of the AEC and was involved in the formulation of policies related to nuclear energy and the development of atomic weapons.
