Significance of the Battle of Plassey
The Battle of Plassey played a very significant role in the entry of the British forces in the history of India. In this battle, the Nawab of Bengal lost to the English army led by Robert Clive. The nawab’s army was very large as compared to that of the English, but his people betrayed him. More than half of his army did not participate in the battle. It was after this battle that the British took over the administration of India in their hands, and the nawab of Bengal was merely reduced to a puppet king, who had no power or money but had all the responsibilities of the kingdom. The British forces, on the other hand, enjoyed all the money and power.
